What I think is that civilisation or the universe itself, in terms of time, has actually passed by in what would be the equivalent of the snap of ones fingers. Therefore in the way we measure time on Earth you may live for 80 years, yet using the measurement of real time you would be inconsequential. You see if the universe is still expanding as a result of the "Big Bang" then it must have happened recently in terms of real time, yet in earth time it may have been billions of years ago (aka, billions of orbits of the earth around the sun).

I'm sure you are familiar with the question, If a tree falls in the forest and noone is around to hear it, does it make a sound? I apply similiar thinking about the universe, after all if no LIFE exists to observe it does the universe itself exist. If the answer to that is no, then in theory we do not really exist either. It's kind of mind blowing to think that the universe and all the stars and planets and all the physical matter that makes them up could possibly exist if there was no concious entities around that were aware of it.

Therefore I would say that the universe is only as old as the first concious lifeform, and that it is only as expansive as the eye can see and beyond what can be visibly seen is nothing at all. That is why when we build more powerful telescopes we can find new galaxies or stars, which while we assume they were there the truth may be that they were never there at all and only exist now because we have the power to see them. After all, what would nothing look like? Maybe, maybe what we perceive as new planets, galaxies and stars are only the way the brain perceives NOTHING.

it would exist as it so desired, as it seems to me, and choose not to exist if it so desired. the universe reminds me of our bodies in a sense, all of us are working in the same system (at least as we percieve). and also its "civiliZation" not "civiliSation"....its like the way people spell "defense" "defence" on battle.net. damn hacker idiots.

if the Universe has passed by, then why are we here? are we remnants? and if there is no universe for us to remain in, how do we mannage that?

but how do we know there even IS a universe? let alone that we can live in it? perhaps we are living in an entirely different plane, observing "through the looking glass" as it were, other planes, for example, a/the universe. and we manage it because we believe we can, and as such we do. simple enough no? after all, all sides to the equation have some merit! *waits to get bashed by about 10 people before they read the signature*

hmm...

you have a good point. but he's speeking of 'our' universe, or the one that we exist in at the moment. so we're still 'remnants' or whatever, and we're observing the other planes from 'our' plane which has paased on.

hmm...

or has YET to pass on! one cant forget that! it seems more likely than already passed on, at least for the most part. i mean we're probably better than some realities and worse than some realitites, (based on our views of good life that is) so what does it really matter, i guess, i mean we might as well just enjoy the time we've got to the fullest.

until we can move on to higher or lower things its all we really can do. unless youre a stubborn bastard with years of wisdom and experiences he shouldnt have like me, and plan to hold onto life and never let go until your hands fall off.
